United Dairies High Rd

A Memory of Chadwell Heath.

My Nan and Grandad lived for many years in the flat above United Dairies in High Rd Chadwell Heath.
I have many happy memories of staying with them in the 60s and early 70s. We used to enter via a lane just inside Whalebone lane and then through the gate - near the other end on the right hand side into their garden. You would then go up the wrought iron steps up into the flat. It had an open plan living room/ kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom.I remember so clearly all the paintwork was brown.
I spent many hours sitting in the bay window watching the traffic at the lights.
We would walk up High Road to Woolworths and always got some pick and mix sweets in there. On the way back we would cross the road and go to the park. You could see the big slide from the road.
Very happy times.
