More about this scene

Further west along the A30, Chard is a market town laid out in 1234 by Bishop Jocelyn of Wells. It grew into a prosperous wool town; in the 19th century cloth-making was replaced by lace-making and producing agricultural machinery. In this view, which looks east, the portico of the 1834 Town Hall dominates, with its two storeys of Tuscan columns, pediment and clock turret.

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Hello My mum and her family were evacuated to Chard in WW2. My uncle and aunt are always talking about their time there and I would love to hear from anyone also with memories. Kind regards Sandra
