More about this scene
The village is 400ft above sea level off the A59. Its parish church, Christ Church, was erected in 1837, shortly after Queen Victoria came to the throne. The spire was struck by lightning in 1854 and the steeple had to be pulled down, but all was restored and the church extended in 1882. Silver Roman coins have been found here, as the Roman route to Ribchester is close by.
