More about this scene
These splendid trees had already overseen the widespread development of substantial suburban houses south of the village and the station which had begun in the years following the First World War. Although by the time this picture was taken the road surface had yet to be tarmacadamed and pavements installed, these luxury properties were eagerly sought after by prosperous middle-class families. It was a trend which was to continue after the Second World War.
