More about this scene
Ahead, the window display of the branch of United Dairies features pyramids of assorted groceries, while in front two gentlemen take the air seated on a bench which stands above the subterranean cellars of the old brewery. On the eastern side of the Broadway, the sun awnings of all the shops have been unrolled against the summer sun's rays, with, remarkably, the sole exception of the local branch of the International Stores grocery chain. On the extreme right of the photograph the corner site at the foot of High Street awaits its eventual development.
