More about this scene

A conspicuously clean- looking street scene with only the faintest trace of horses. Loveday & Sons, the jewellers, have now occupied their shop at Baddow Road corner for over a century. Wright's Art Shop is an interesting addition: maybe it was intended to catch the eye of the theatre- going classes. Foster's, meanwhile, were making lofty claims: perhaps the proximity of Bond's and Rankin's was simply prompting an atmosphere of healthy competition.
