Chelsea Manor Buildings
A Memory of Chelsea.
I grew up in Chelsea Manor Buildings in the 1960s-1970s. I have such fond memories of shopping with my mum in the Kings Road queuing for bread in Mrs Beatons on a Sat and shopping in Johns the grocers in flood street. Playing run-outs and rounders in the square until it was dark, which was the time we all had to be in. I remember Diane Robinson who had lots of brothers and sisters, the Webber's (David and Martin) as well as Sharon Dunning and Emma Bairstow. We all went to Christ Church primary. My favourite shop was Orange Julius and the Chelsea drug store with its rotating floor. I remember when the punks came to town and when the punk rock shop opened 'Boy'.
Would love to hear from anyone who remembers those great days. Bernie Brown

My uncle called Budd Herbert worked in the greengrocers shop in Chelsea Manor Street. My parents grew up in Chelsea Manor Buildings - they were the McCreedy family (my mum Rose) and the Wells' family (my dad Roy). My parents lived in Chelsea Manor Buildings during the 1950s and 1960s.
