Chesham, High Street 1921

More about this scene
This view looks south down the High Street past a motor bike with its acetylene headlamp towards the old Market House with its cupola. More change and continuity: the three-storey building with the four lamps is still a shoe shop, Stead and Simpson, rather than Freeman, Hardy & Willis, but the cycle shop on the left, festooned with tyres, is now a jewellers. The building beyond, between it and the Queen Anne style bank, was demolished about 1930 and replaced by a smart Moderne stone-fronted Midland Bank.
