More about this scene
Although Great Clacton was long-established as a medieval market village, the seaside town did not really develop until late in the 19th century. By the years just before the Second World War, it had become a thriving town attracting many holiday visitors. Here we see crowds flocking around the pier with its swimming pool and theatre. Cars were gaining in importance by this time.
