More about this scene

The old village consists of a number of small, picturesque thatched and timber-framed cottages to the west of the church and along a lane running west from the river bridge. The lane by the church climbs past the 1847 village school, also by Scott, to the main road from Abingdon. On the north side of the road is the Plough Inn, occupying another of the 16th- and 17th-century village houses, in this case with late medieval cruck frames within. The inn has been extended since 1960, but otherwise this view is relatively unchanged, although to the left there is, of necessity, a car park.
