More about this scene
In 1752, William Vick bequeathed money towards the eventual bridging of the Gorge. It was not until 1829 that a competition was held for engineers and architects to submit designs. Despite entries from the likes of Thomas Telford, the competition was won by the still relatively inexperienced Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
