Clifton, The Bridge 1887

More about this scene
By 1843 work on the bridge had ground to a halt, and the kitty was empty; all the available money had been used up on building the abutments. It was not until 1864 that the bridge was finally completed. The chains used to support the road were bought second hand, having been used on the old Hungerford Bridge in London.
