Judges Lodgings Of Clifton Common Memories Rob Beilby

A Memory of Clifton.

In the years of early 1960 through the 1970's my mother Iris Beilby was the housekeeper and cook to the High Court Judges when they were in attendance at the courts in Bristol. She had for a number of years attended to their needs when the were on circuit travelling around the country. I spent many happy times helping her to create dishes for these eminent judges and their guests to the lodgings. At times they would have members of the royal family, I remember particularly Princess Margaret and various political luminaries and local dignitaries. My walks around the beautiful Clifton Common were rewarded by running into Cary Grant escorting his mother for an outing, she was living in an assisted living house in the area. I live in California now and my wife who was a flight attendant for 35 years met Cary Grant on a flight to New York who was in First Class which was empty. She was able to discuss with him our chance meeting with him on the common in Clifton with his mother. All happy memories...
