More about this scene
We are looking down from the keep of Clitheroe Castle to the town below. Castle Street is in the foreground; it changes to Church Street at the Library (the triangular building with the clock), which was built in 1905. Church Street leads to the large parish church of St Mary Magdalene; its 15th-century tower is topped by a twisted spire, which was added in 1846. The Swan & Royal Hotel stands out on the right of the street, one of the many eating and drinking places on Castle Street.
