Why are these different? All 300,000 photographs in The Frith Collection have been scanned, but as the photos were taken over a 110 year period on a wide range of glass & film negatives, using different photographic processes, every image has to be checked and optimised, before we make a print for a customer.

St Abbs
My name is Lynda Drew (nee Howarth). I remember St Abbs very fondly. In fact I have very great memories of the best holiday I can remember. My father, Stanley Howarth, was stationed at Coldingham with the RAF for a while during the 2nd world war. Raf Dronehill
I served at Dronehill in the RAFpolice dog branch after Hong Kong, I remember well the cold winter nights, also scorching up the road on my Norton International motor bike. It was actually a very good posting for myself, being a local lad, and I had the opportunity to visit home frequently. I have not met any other mates who served there. I visited last year, the guardroom I skived in on cold winter nights is still there, as area a few buildings and married quarters.

Raf Base
I was born at the RAF base 2 Drone Hill where my father was based. I am now 54 years old and in July 2004 after losing my mother I came up to Coldingham to revisit the base, which to my surprise in now a caravan site, and the house that I was born in is still there. As you can imaging it was quite an emotional visit. The old Naffi is now the site clubhouse and there was a write-up of it being an RAF radar base, it closed ...see more

Holidays In Coldingham
Until we emigrated to the U.S. in 1948, my family spent our summer holidays in Coldingham with Cha Crowe & family, also, Johnny Walker, known as Walker the Butcher whose son Ian still has his butcher shop in Eyemouth. They were the happiest of times. Carefree summers & lots of chasing rabbits & catching them to make rabbit pie from our Mum. Our Dad was a Company Officer in the Edinburgh Fire ...see more

All our photos are printed as optimised versions of their originals, this process can take anything from 15 minutes to several hours. This ensures that the product you get shows the true quality that Frith photos are renowned for.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
