Idyllic Childhood

A Memory of Collins Green.

I lived in Collins Green with my family in the very early 60's. I lived at number 35 with my mum and dad Brian and Christine Leather. I was around 3yrs old and my sister Caroline was around a year old. My mum then had my brother Sean in that house and we then moved across the road to number 68. My youngest sister Adele was then born there in 1966. It was a magical place to grow up and I wish I still lived there. It was a safe and happy place where everybody knew each other, where front doors were never locked and the sense of community spirit was ever present. Sadly our mum and dad are no longer with us.
Adele and I went to Penny Lane earlier this evening and walked through the lane and down the backs as we used to call them. We sat on the park and recalled the individual houses and the people that lived in them when we were young and carefree. It's a place that stays in your heart if you've ever been lucky enough to live there.
