T Walton Greengrocers

A Memory of Coulsdon.

I used to work in the greengrocers situated on Brighton Road near the junction of Malcolm Road. I used to do deliveries on the carrier bike around Coulsdon and work in the shop. But after 15 months I had to leave as I was transfered to Streatham and being only 15 and living in Caterham and using buses, it was too far to travel.

The black Morris Minor convertible side valve in the foreground was my first car. I bought it in 1961 when I was 16, before I had a driving licence. I started work at KLM Motors 1960 as an apprentice car mechanic where I bought the car for £250 and lived over the laundrette 123 Brighton Road next to the bridge from 1958 to 1968. It was a lovely place to live.
