In between the dramatic hills of Great and Little Whernside, Coverham lies in a hollow 2 miles west of Middleham. It was a peaceful place for the establishment of an abbey, which endured from 1202 to 1536. The ruins are now part of a private house. Also in the village near the waterfall is Holy Trinity church, restored in 1878. A 17th-century manor house completes the idyllic
