More about this scene
Hotels and yacht chandlers line the seashore at Cowes. The town's importance as a centre for yachting, and the close proximity of Queen Victoria's home Osborne House, made Cowes most fashionable in the 19th century. A large number of hotels were built to cater for the increased number of tourists.
