More about this scene

This view remains largely unchanged, even down to the detail of the roofed porches on the left. On the right is the Crafthole Methodist Chapel, built in 1867, while the house jutting out into the road on the left is now the shop and Post Office.

A Selection of Memories from Crafthole

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Crafthole

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

The bungalow in the centre of the photograph is called Donkey Halt as when the carts of pilchards were taken up the hill by donkeys they stopped there for a rest before tackling the very steep hill to the main road at the top.
