More about this scene
Crawley was originally a village which grew in importance during the coaching era. Much of the older town has gone, but in and around the High Street there are still reminders of Crawley as it used to be. It was designated a 'New Town' in 1947; today it is a sprawling community within easy reach of London and, of course, Gatwick Airport.
