The timber-framed cottages seen here were part of Mitchell's Farm, which survived until the 1920s and was the last working farm in Crawley High Street. Over the years the farm buildings have been home to a restaurant and a bank. Today, this is a pub.

I lived in Tillgate from 1945 to about 1954. I lived in New Street, and my boyhood friends were Richard Freakes, John Denman, Michael and Graham Goring, Jeff and Billy Kowatch and Alfie Manzoli.
