Crewe Town Hall, 1970s

A Memory of Crewe.

I have a memory of visiting the Town Hall in the early 70s with my grandfather and being fascinated by a water feature in the foyer. It's no longer there and the staff don't seem to recall it at all. Have I imagined this or can anyone shed any light?

Crewe Town Hall was demolished around that date, along with the original library and a few other buildings. The whole site became the Ciivc Centre, the part occupied by the Town Hall became (roughly) the open space which has since beome Memorial Square. It was across the road from what young people and incomers think is the Town Hall, but that has always been named The Municipal Buildings. You may not have imagined it, you may have been in the other building!
