It can be a long dangerous slide down the tiered sea walls to the sands and pier. The smart new flight of steps allowed ladies in long dresses to make a dignified descent. One Edwardian visitor recalls an excursion to Cromer in a wagon lent by a local farmer. He sent a postcard to his mother to let her know he had arrived safely. It was delivered by the afternoon post the same day!

I Was There Ron Jackson
In 1949 the Royal Links which had hosted Royals and the glitterati of the day was the first to fall to the contagious bout of fires which mysteriously began to sweep the area. Imagine that wonderful central staircase (with no fire doors of course) what a chimney that must have made. Coastguard Lookout.
At the top right hand corner of this picture was the coastguard lookout where my father was stationed. As kids we were only allowed to swim on our own if we stayed on the beach below the lookout. I loved going to visit him "on watch" and look out of the huge tripod binoculars. I had to stand on a box to reach them.

One To Be Proud Of
This image was shot by my great-great grandfather JJ Merrett, makes me proud to know that his work is still being sold. Even more so to know that he shot a subject we can now no longer go and see as it fell into the sea around 1913.

August 1898
Just to record a letter I have by Henry Wood, of the Promenade Concerts, London. Henry Wood married Princess Olga Oorousoff in July 1898 and honeymooned in Braemar for some 6 weeks. On his return they must have stayed in the Marlborough Private Hotel, Cromer, for the letter has this address, dated August 20th. '98, stating that he was still on his honeymoon. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
