Early School Days In Crouch End
A Memory of Crouch End.
I was born in 1946 and attended Rokesley Infants school from 1951 to 1953. We baby boomers were too many for the main school and in 1952 my class was in a private house just up the road from the school. We had to march down for lunch. I really enjoyed my time there and was very upset when we moved to Clapham in South London. My mum worked part time at the Beales Bakery and my dad was a Policeman. We shared the house at 39 Haringey Park with 2 other police families. I went to Sunday School at the church at the end of Haringey Park. I had my tonsils removed aged 6 in the cottage hospital. Life was simple and good. I now live in Australia and visited Crouch End on a visit back to the UK, and showed my daughter and my husband where I had lived. It still had the village feel to it. My maiden name was Mayhew.
