More about this scene

Once a sleepy Devon backwater, Croyde's beach and bay was discovered by holidaymakers in the 19th century. With two huge caravan parks, this area fills up dramatically in the short summer season. Here we see an altogether quieter scene. Laver seaweed grows on the rocks: picked, boiled and served with bacon for breakfast it has a wonderful flavour - albeit something of an acquired taste.

Evacuated To Croyde Bay In 1940 At 3 Months Old.
During 1940 I was evacuated to Croyde Bay with my family the Fletchers. At that time I had 3 older siblings. While there, another brother was born. We lived in the Carpenters Arms Cottage for about 6 years until the end of the war. My memories at that time are about walking 3 miles to school and of beautiful sand dunes and the sea. My Families Shop
So happy to have found this. This was my grans home. My great grandmother owned this shop. We have just come back from a visit to see my grans oldest friend who still lives in Georgeham and used to work from my great grandmother in this shop. Amazing I will need to order this.

'holiday House'.
I was born and lived the early years of my life in South Molton.   My father had his own building firm there.   In 1958 we moved to Croyde Bay my father having bought this large house on the cliffs above the bay for £1800.   This photo shows it before it became a motel.   He put a new roof on the property in tiles rather than the slates which were normally used at that time.   He then converted the top floor into our new ...see more

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
