Rose Cottage, Loweswater

A Memory of Crummock Water.

The cottage nestling in the foreground was purchased from the White family in 1986 by my parents. Between the vicarage and smithy it was built in 1780, and from 1782 the curate's school before moving up the hill to the new building (now village hall) in 1839. It has been a home to a post office messenger (Thomas Sancton 1881 census) and also Bella, who ran it as a sweetshop in the '70s.
For the last twenty years it has been let as self-catering holiday-let accommodation.
