It's 1972, I know that because I am the two year old baby in the pram back in the days when mothers had no fear of leaving their children out side of shops, the reason being that the shop aisles were too narrow to get a pram down
Feeling a bit nostalgic, I browsed some sites showing my old primary school, my home town and village of Pontnewydd and found this site with a memory of Gazzis ice cream parlour in Pontnewydd. I remember my father treating us to an ice cream there after we had waited patiently as he had a shave in the barber shop on New Street on a Saturday morning. Sair Mann
Whilst looking through your site I noticed this photograph was dated c1955. My father ,Mother and I moved to LLanyrafon in 1958 ,followed by my Grandparents in 1959. We were part of the first and original LLanyrafon occupants.We moved into Dunraven Road where I lived and grew up for the following twenty three years - my parents and grandparents remained much longer. Are we talking about this school as the new school? I went there,does anyone remember Mr.Pryor who taught science?What a great teacher,remember helping him build his house in Crossy.
I was browsing this site and saw the article about the coffee shop in Pontnewydd. I think I was around 5 and remember my mam Emily Morris who worked there,I have faint images of having ice cream cones there and the aroma. Good site.
I grew up in Croesyceiliog at Raglan Court next to the playing fields and I went to Abyschan Grammer School. There was no bypass road then, and the railway was still was bringing coal from the valleys down to the docks in Newport. I used to lie in bed as a child and hear the train shunting past. Hi, I used to lived in Tynewydd Road as a small child. My name is Hook. I then moved to number 28 Station Road, I lived next door to Mr and Mrs Gazzi who ran the coffee bar in Pontnewydd.
