More about this scene

Sheep safely graze on the village green in Danby, a pretty village on the northern edge of the North York Moors. Note the chapel on the left. Danby is perhaps best known as the parish where Canon J C Atkinson wrote his Forty Years in a Moorland Parish, a wonderful evocation of moorland life.

A Selection of Memories from Danby

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Danby

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I have a cousin living in Danby. She was Pamela May Broomfield. She married a chap with the last name of Murphy. She was a Pharmacist, the last time I knew of her. It would be great to hear from her again. Last I knew her father Ken, sent a photo of the home she lived in, in Danby, with her zoo of animals.
