I grew up in Darlington apart from two years when we lived in Shildon. I can remember being put in one of the rubbish bins on the High Row by a boy called Peter Leaf probably for being cheeky. I can also remember when I was little going to carol service round the Christmas Tree on the High Row. Sweet memories.
Post house coffee bar (Dilaplos), I lived in there, lunch most dinner times, and back in when the shop closed. I worked in Stylo's, corner of Northgate and Crown Street. Myself and a lad called Frank Uttley(hairdresser) used to get our lunch time snacks on tic and pay on Fridays on payday. Hi Who remembers the Post House coffee shop in Post House Wynd? The first time I went there I thought "this is it - I've made it!!". It was a great meeting place and everyone had such a good laugh. Brings back very happy memories. Then after a few years I progressed to the "Tavern in the Town". Sadly both premises have changed use now but the memories remain - aaahhh!!
I believe the girl walking in the photo with the shopping bag is myself at the age of 16 - 17 judging by my hair style at that time. I recognise the skirt as one I had made myself and my walk also. I also remember the cardigan I was wearing and of course I recognise myself. I had just walked past a cake shop where my sister worked at the time, and I am looking in a jeweller's window.
