The foundation stone of the college was laid in 1902 by Edward VII; the architect was Sir Aston Webb, who also designed the Victoria and Albert Museum. After the college's completion in 1905, the first commanding officer was Admiral Sir Jackie Fisher, who presided over cadets as young as 15.
