More about this scene

In this view the family businesses of Hargrave's the butcher's (right) and Trott's the greengrocer's next door are still in business, though not for much longer. Trott's closed in 1968, and is at present a mobile phone shop. Collett's, the women's outfitter, has closed, as we can see from the boarded up window on the extreme left; this is now a charity shop. Barclays Bank (next to Trott's) arrived in Daventry in the 1960s to replace Wood Bros, wine and spirit merchants.

An Evacuee
I remember a sunny day in 1940 a 10 year old London kid alone nervous scared alone except for a bunch of other kids, We had been scurried away from war torn London having gone through the Battle of Britain German airraids. Multifunctional Or What?
Reading some of the uses that this grand old building has been put to over the decades, brought back memories of my earlier years in the 1960's where the Abbey buildings frequently featured. Probably the first visit I was not aware of, because in the late '50's the post natal clinic was held there. 3 High Street
Currently researching the history of the building which now houses First Light Photographic & Dawn Branigan Photography at 3 & 3A High Street. Have traced it back as far as 1836, when Leigh's Bakery was founded by one John Leigh. His son, Samuel George Leigh carried the tradition on well into the 20th Century. The Braunston Tunnel
A short distance north-west of Daventry is Braunston. The village lies on a hill overlooking the Grand Union Canal, one of Britain’s most famous inland waterways, and is a hub of the canal network. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
