More about this scene
Holy Cross Church is the only Georgian town church in Peterborough diocese. It was rebuilt in 1752 after the remnant of the Cluniac priory church became unsafe. Designed by William and David Hiorn of Warwick, the design is reminiscent of St Martin in the Fields, London, by James Gibb. He later designed All Saints, Derby, now Derby Cathedral. The Hiorn brothers worked as masons at Derby, and when they were approached by Daventry for a new church design, they used Derby as a model.
