More about this scene
The Moot Hall has now been renovated, and looks worthy of its status as the Town Hall. This fine Georgian town house became the Moot Hall and residence of the Town Council around 1800. This role continued until the re-organisation of local government in 1972. With the formation of the Daventry District Council, the Charter Trustees were formed to look after Daventry's charters and town regalia. It was not until 2003 that a new Daventry Town Council was set up. By this time the Moot Hall was in use as a museum and Tourist Information Centre, with the Mayor's Parlour still operative on the top floor. It is sad that the building is at present empty, following the closure of the museum and TIC in 2004. The Town Council have moved to new premises in Bishop Crewe House, part of the old Grammar School.
