More about this scene
Charles Dickens was fond of Dawlish, and used it as the birthplace of Nicholas Nickelby, thus developing the town's literary heritage. It had started with Jane Austen (in 'Sense and Sensibility') and continued into the 20th century, when John le Carre's 'Perfect Spy' Magnus Pym died here.
