Bill Smith & Denham School Friends 1945 56

A Memory of Denham.

Hi Bill. Just picked up your memories of Denham which is really great. You may not remember me but I remember you and your Dad, Sargeant Smith. I was born in 1940 in Courtfield Gardens a small cul-de-sac between your house and local shop Smiths!! You probably knew Ian and Ann Stapley, Mary Monks, Pat Entwhistle, Jane Aldridge amonst others. While I am here I would like to mention The Bond brothers, the Robinsons, the Coombes. Your teachers were all mine at one time or another. plus Miss Martin's mother who used to come in sometimes to assist in the classroom and would give you a knuckle in the back should you not be paying proper attention! Also Mr Taylor, Mr Higgs, Mr McIntosh and Headmasters Captain Thompson and Mr Entwhistle. Fond memories of all of them! Also I will mention Roger and Jimmy Bath, Keith Aitkenhead, Dave Taylor, Dick Winter, Tony Admans, Jennifer Sherwell, Jean McIntyre, Lesley Sheldrake, Marie Byrne (from The Lea) and Margaret Horstead from Higher Denham who sadly died from accident injuries when only 17 or so. We spent a lot of time cycling up The Pyghtle to Denham Station  to collect train numbers and later on (the late 50s) time at the Green Parrot run by Ken Drennen, his daughter Maureen was also in my class, a great place for listening to all the latest rocknroll records on the jukebox and generally having innocent 50s fun. Great to see your name on the site after all this time. Hope you and your family are all keeping well and you can make that trip back one day. Best wishes to you, your memory has brought a lot of good ones back for me. Cheers-John Hawkins.

ps. I hope some of the other friends I have mentioned will be able to see this and make contact.
