More about this scene

This is the most central town in Norfolk. This view shows the varied façades of the buildings fronting the market place. The building next to the King's Arms Hotel on the right is a good example. Many of these ornate frontages were added by the Victorians especially to banks and hotels to give an improved image to customers. The Great Eastern Railway office (left) opened onto the market place near to the parcel receiving office. In the 16th century the town suffered two great fires, and the market place was greatly reduced in size following the rebuilding.

A Selection of Memories from Dereham

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Dereham

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I live a short walk from this lovely building. This year is the 50th anniversary of Bishop Bonner's Cottage being turned into a museum 1963 - 2013. There will be a free admission day to the museum on its birthday of 11th May 2-4.30pm, you can find out more about the cottage on www.derehamhistory.com.
This is the first photograph I've seen of an early glimpse of the school, I wish I could find more and information on it.
