More about this scene

The stone walls of St Peter's Church, to the north of the forecourt to Doddington Hall, are a marked contrast to the mellow red brick of the Hall, which might be by Robert Smythson, the architect of Hardwick Hall. Mostly rebuilt by Thomas Lumby in the 1770s in a fairly correct Gothic, the church has a more cheery Strawberry Hill Gothick west tower and spire.
