Downham, Post Office And Old Stocks 1921

More about this scene
Our photographer was a busy man, and obviously spent a week or more travelling the area to capture the village scenes that we see here in our book, some eighty years on. One of his briefs was to include the local Post Office in his photographs, so that it could then be turned into a postcard to sell in the shop. Here we see the Post Office complete with children and a horse and trap outside. On the right an old sycamore tree shades what is left of the village stocks. The film 'Whistle Down The Wind' with Hayley Mills was filmed in and around Downham village.
