More about this scene
A small group (centre left), seeking the shade of mature trees in the hot summer of 1921, faces the photographer. The steep slope of the village street leads to a second group of cottages clustered round the village green. To the right, up three steps, is the entry to St Leonard's churchyard. Three of the five bells hanging in the church tower date from the 15th century.
