Ex Staff Member In The 60s

A Memory of Droitwich Spa.

I worked at the Raven for 3 happy years as Patissiere it was like a large family a great place to live and work.

How many remember the Kitchen and waiting staff back then when Chris Baylis was Head Chef and Harry Parish the Head Waiter.

Bunty and Ted Maintenance and decorating, George Sparks was the Electrician for the Hotel.

The head porter was Ted Bourne.

Miss Boughton was the Manager.

Happy Days.

I worked at the raven from 1967 in the kitchens as the larder chef, Chris was the head chef and Mick was the second chef he was as wonderful man. Vince was there veg chef and Richard was the sauce chef. I agree they were wonderful days. I remember the hunt ball and one year they had a starter of smoked salmon and potted prawns, my fingers were bleeding opening the foil on the shrimp pots. Harry parish was there head waiter and Paddy his deputy.

I worked as an apprentice chef from 1972- 1978 when I was 15,I have some lovely memories of people who worked there. Chris Baylis was the head chef, Mike a polish chap was second, Heinz, Paul and Dave in Pastry. Martin was the veg cook, just like a family, as we all worked long hours together. There was steak bar at the other end but I didn't have to work there. I think I remember you Chris in larder. It was so busy with banquets and Saturday night dinner dances, I got £5 a week and when I passed my exams it went up to £7.50. I still some of the old staff around town course a lot gone long ago, Dolly Mosely in the still room a lovely kind woman smoked and swore like a trooper but I cried when she died so sad.Dolly Turner the breakfast cook, I had to be there for 7.30 to help serve breakfast god help me if I were late. Such happy times I remember and its sad to see the Raven now, what ever went wrong?
