More about this scene
The Rotunda Hospital of 1757, the first purpose-built maternity hospital in Ireland or Britain, and the adjacent Rotunda of 1764. This tall hall, 80 feet in diameter, now houses a cinema, but was originally used as a venue for the hospital's fundraising events and functioned as an Assembly Hall in the 18th century. The Irish composer John Field gave his first public performance here, and Liszt also gave a concert.
