Dudley, The Zoo Entrance c.1960

More about this scene
This view of Berthold Lubetkin's entrance to Dudley Zoo also shows the large letters 'Z', 'O', and 'O', which left little doubt as to what lay beyond. The zoo's managers were very clever in their use of this symbolism, and for many years traded on the slogan: 'Ooz going to Dudley Zoo?' The easel board in front updated visitors about any day-to-day changes in the zoo's operation, and any special events.
