My great-grandparents were William Gordon Stuart and Sarah Anne (Miller) Stuart. They moved to Tininver House, Dufftown in 1887. William was in the British military for over 37 years and had just retired. He was stationed in Ireland where my grandfather, Charles Gordon Stuart, was born in 1880. Grant's have a family grave in the local cemetery.
The Grant family were prominent in Dufftown, residing in Amulree Conval Street. Peter Grant who was Dufftown's master baker, appears to be the name that continued the family name until he died in 1930
I recently made a trip to visit my ancestor's grave in the cemetery at Mortlach Parish Church. The tomb stone records the deaths of my Great Grandmother Margaret Stuart who died in 1897 aged 50 years and my Great Grandfather James Alexander Beaton who died in 1909 aged 72 years.Also their daughter Jessie Ann Beaton who died 15th January 1917 (interred in Allanvale Cemetery ...see more
