This image is a Reference Print: it has not been shown on our website before as it has not been optimised and therefore may not meet the quality standards we require for use in our normal product range. However, we understand that this image could be potentially important for genealogical, local history or architectural research and so we are showing it on the website for on-line research only. The photo may be available to buy, but needs to be checked and optimised before you can place an order.

Why are these different? All 300,000 photographs in The Frith Collection have been scanned, but as the photos were taken over a 110 year period on a wide range of glass & film negatives, using different photographic processes, every image has to be checked and optimised, before we make a print for a customer.

A Selection of Memories from Dundee

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Dundee

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I was a student at Dundee University from 1993 to 1999. I have numerous great memories there. I miss spending my Sunday window shopping in Wellgate, walking to Tesco by the riverside, walking up to the Law, and Saturday night at the Odeon Cinema. Dundee's strawberry tart is one of the best I've ever known, and I never miss them, every summer Winter was bitterly cold. Everybody was always so happy though ...see more
In relation to Reform Street and the city square on Friday/Saturday nights. We boys and our latest girlfriends (only if you had a car) used to meet and have a drag race either up Reform Street and back or a race from city square out under the rail bridge and back - obviously when the local bobbies were absent of course! I remember a Ford Anglia with a Lotus engine dropped in it being the main car to beat - easy for a bike, but not on the riverside run - four wheels were better....great fun!
Hi, I lived at No 4 John St from 1948 to about 1960 before moving to Ann Field St and then up the Hilltown to Ann St (Carnegie Tower). The town council must have found out that I had moved down to the West Midlands, for when I looked on google maps a few weeks ago all the houses that I lived at have been knocked down, or in the case of Carnegie Tower it was blown down. Mind you, Ann Field St wasn't too good back ...see more
I remember travelling from Newport to Dundee (and back) many times on the ferry. I know there were two boats but I can't remember their names. I have a feeling one was THE ALICIA CRAIG ?? but not sure. Can anyone help with the names or photos, or both please.
