I was a student at Dundee University from 1993 to 1999. I have numerous great memories there. I miss spending my Sunday window shopping in Wellgate, walking to Tesco by the riverside, walking up to the Law, and Saturday night at the Odeon Cinema. In relation to Reform Street and the city square on Friday/Saturday nights. We boys and our latest girlfriends (only if you had a car) used to meet and have a drag race either up Reform Street and back or a race from city square out under the rail bridge and back - obviously when the local bobbies were absent of course! I remember a Ford Anglia with a Lotus engine dropped in it being the main car to beat - easy for a bike, but not on the riverside run - four wheels were better....great

Hi, I lived at No 4 John St from 1948 to about 1960 before moving to Ann Field St and then up the Hilltown to Ann St (Carnegie Tower). The town council must have found out that I had moved down to the West Midlands, for when I looked on google maps a few weeks ago all the houses that I lived at have been knocked down, or in the case of Carnegie Tower it was blown down. I remember travelling from Newport to Dundee (and back) many times on the ferry. I know there were two boats but I can't remember their names. I have a feeling one was THE ALICIA CRAIG ?? but not sure. Can anyone help with the names or photos, or both please.
I was born in 1949 and lived in Little John Street with my brother Bobby, dad Hugh and my mum, Jenny. Not that I remember about the day I was born, but I do have a lot of happy memories about The Crescent. Our next door neighbours were the Scott family, Neil, Billy and Alec. My memories of the area around the Castle are of fishing both off the pier and from the beach at the other side of the castle from this picture, it would have been around 1978/9 while I was still an apprentice at Timex and before I got my first car and was able to travel further afield.
One of my ancestors has Broughty Ferry Castle listed as her place of birth in 1863, a rather special link that I am proud to boast about :)
Meeting my pals under the clock and walking around on Sundays, going dancing at Robbies once a week. My Mum and Dad also would meet under the clock. Dancing at the City Square on VE day. I was living with my Grandmother on Princess Street, where I was born, I was sent back to Dundee in 1944 because of the VE bombs. My first job was in Willie Lows Grocers. There was nothing like seeing the New Year in with the bagpipes in the City Square. Oh, so many happy memories.
Seeing this brings back memories of many happy meetings. In my day the foot of Reform St was the place where all of Dundee's friends and lovers seemed to meet. Late at night the fish and chip stand on Boots the Chemists corner was also a popular place to meet. I did my SRN at the DRI. Seeing the photo of the Castle brings back happy memories. My husband and I spent many happy hours in the grounds surrounding the Castle. On my last visit to Dundee the housing complex in the grounds of the old DRI were not yet finished but one of the Turrets was still standing. I wonder if it still stands. If anyone out there has a photo of the DRI I would love to see it posted on this site. Edna Adamson Australia
My name then was Watson. I used to live in Dudhope Crescent Road, which was opposite a small grave yard by Bell St, sadly no longer there. My granny used to take to roll my easter egg down the hill near the swings. In those days the castle did'nt look like this, peacocks were in cages there.
