Dursley, Market Place c.1960

More about this scene
Owing to an unfortunate one-way traffic system foisted on the town since this photograph was taken, Dursley's Market House and Town Hall is now isolated on a roundabout. The building dates from 1738, and at one time the local cheese and butter market was held here. A little way out of town on the splendidly named Nibley Knoll is a soaring monument to William Tyndale, who translated the New Testament into English.
