More about this scene

Just east of the village, where Main Road curves towards Bants Lane, is this large factory which employed over 3,000 people in the 1960s. Two storey offices screen the vast factory behind, where bearings and specialist steel castings and fabrications are made. Now just known as Timken, these elegant offices remain as a tribute to the architectural quality and care given to such buildings, even in wartime. It was opened in 1942.
