White Gables

A Memory of Dymchurch.

I had several really good holidays in Dymchurch in the early 1970's . I stayed with my family at White Gables Guest House , at the time run by a Mr and Mrs Beecroft. It was a beautiful thatched building on The Oval , very near the beach. It had a big garden and I remembering playing in there and drinking coke out of glass bottle with a straw a real holiday treat in those days. There was an old shop in the village which sold toys, buckets and spades and rock , I use to love going there. Does anyone know what happened to the beautiful White Gables? I have been back but its gone. Dymchurch such a great place, so many happy memories.

Our family 4 children and 2 adults spent many a school holiday at The White Gables Guest House in the 60’s - early 70’s.
Such fond memories.
I use to love the sound of the big brass gong for meals. The atmosphere was friendly and cozy.
I am sure we stayed in The Annex.
The games in the garden and the short hop to the beach.
The shop with the double stairs to buy all things seaside !
I am going to Hythe for a Staycation in May 2021 and will go to Dymchurch to regress to an 8 year old
Should be fun & emotional.
Even got a trip booked on the Miniature Train.
Hi, I too remember White Gables with a great fondness, and I have a vivid memory of my parents taking a phone call, I’m guessing from the owners, when it burned down after a storm, I’m guessing we were probably booked in for the following Summer? Anyway I do have some photos somewhere I think of it and also cinefilm of our holidays there from about 1972 - 1976 and I’ll try to share them if I can
So sad, it was a lovely place
Thank you for your memories, pictures would be great.
Have come across a postcard of the 'White Gables Guest House' from the summer of 1967. My late Father kept loads of postcards, leaflets, tickets etc from all the places we went on Holiday in the 60's and 70's and ciné film. I may have some ciné film on DVD of the 'White Gables' albeit a few seconds.
