The Grove Model Shop

A Memory of Ealing.

I remember the model shop in the Grove. There was a model 00 gauge train that went round when you placed a penny in the slot. When you were in the shop you could see the train come in and go around the track under the glass counter. I remember the engine was a GWR pannier tank. I thing the make was Gaiety, which was a short lived company based in Birmingham after the war. It was a treasure trove, flexible track, buildings etc. The last time I was there, around 1959 I bought a little coal bunker (Triang) comlete with dummy coal, which I still have. It was a wet day and I came from Hanwell on my Hurcules bike, with rod brakes.

Remember Confisserie Francaise (Sp?) in the Mall, with French trains?! SNCF?? Very fancy
remember Con Fran. In 1972 I bought a Mammod Traction Engine there. Also in their closing down sale I bought a set of Triang block instruments. I didn't even know they were made. Still have them. Also in Uxbridge Percy's model shop.
